Three days after Anne Spiegel resigned, the German Greens picked a successor for the post of Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth. The party chose Lisa Paus, a member of the Bundestag since 2009 and a long-time advocate for women's rights and social justice.
Paus is a member of the Green Party's left wing and has been a vocal critic of the government's austerity policies. She has also been a strong supporter of same-sex marriage and other LGBT rights. In her new role, Paus will be responsible for a wide range of issues, including childcare, elder care, and gender equality.
The appointment of Paus is a sign of the Green Party's growing influence in German politics. The party has been gaining ground in recent elections and is now the second-largest party in the Bundestag. Paus' appointment is also a sign of the party's commitment to social justice and equality.
